John Walker's Santa Cruz tour commenced at the Rancho parking
lot in Los Altos. 10 vehicles (5 Ts, 2 As, 1 Chevy,
1 Chrysler, and 1 Lincoln) departed right on time, and headed
north for Alices Restaurant on Skyline Blvd. At that point
we picked up another T and 2 more As.
The weather was great and it was a very pleasant drive down the
coast to Santa Cruz, with a few stops here and there for pictures,
necessities and food. The grumpy old ranger at San Gregorio Beach
gave John a hard time about staying more than 5 minutes for a
pit stop, but we pretty much just ignored him. We meandered on
down the coast with a couple more stops at Pescadero State Beach,
Pigeon Pt Lighthouse, and the Gazos Creek Grill for lunch. In
Santa Cruz, we drove out onto the wharf and kind of became an
instant car show. After that, everyone was on their own for dinner
and amusement, etc. (If you really want to feel out of place,
wander into the boardwalk arcade wearing a Model T jacket.)
Sunday morning, after breakfast, we headed back north on Hwy
9. We did find ice cream at the Foster Freeze in Boulder Creek.
We opened the place up, and got their day off to a fine start.
One final stop to enjoy the view at the overlook on Hwy 9 and
folks began to disperse in various directions.
Good trip, good weather, good food, good friends, good cars,
and ice cream was found. Many thanks to John and Dorothy for
setting it all up, we all know how much work goes into something
like this, and we do appreciate it.
