Hardy souls from the SCVMTFC, MPOTAC and the Horseless Carriage
Club, knowing full well that rain was forecast for January 5,
2008, still awakened early, bundled up and headed to one of three
Amtrak stations for our annual trip to Old Sacramento.
During the ride up, we saw a lot of clouds, a little bit of blue
sky, and no rain
Until we got off of the train.
Some sought refuge in the California State Railroad Museum,
some in the Towe Museum, some in Joes Crab Shack and others
in the stores of Old Sacramento and nearby Westfield Downtown
Plaza. These are all terrific places to spend a day- rain or
shine.
The rain did let up, but the chilly wetness of the day caused
some to head back to the train station earlier than planned.
Again, this was not a bad thing. The Amtrak Station is a rich,
old building with terrazzo floors, old-fashioned heated benches,
a wonderful transcontinental railroad mural on the wall, and
chandeliers hanging from the vaulted ceiling. A good place to
people watch too!
A big thanks to Bill Bratt for arranging this trip for all
of us.
