Just before 9 am on Saturday morning, the 31st of January, a small group of T's, a Model A and a modern gathered at Rancho to begin our tour to the Cinnabar Country Club. We slowly proceeded to the second meeting point, behind the Shell Station on Almaden Expressway. The weather was mostly sunny and crisp with an occasional fog bank to pass through. It took us about 50 minutes to get there. No real problems. Well we did run one red light, does that count? We pulled into the lot and got out to stretch. Soon the others arrived and we took role. Chuck and Helen Christensen and Bob and Mary Beaman had their Model A's. The rest were all T's including Ray and Linda Fontaine, Allan and Lucy Greenberg (in cars similar enough to be bookends), Jim and Jean Boyden, Wally and Frances Morella, Joe Allen, and Troed Johnson. Stan Paddock drove up in a modern and called "shotgun" to ride out with Carl Brown. The remainder of the Morella clan followed up in their modern Dodge Pick up with Mike and Nadine Camicia in their Suby. A lone white speedster piloted by Brian Schott joined the fray but he would only fly as a wingman escort as he had school athletics to attend and couldn't stay for whole deal.Shortly after 10 am Chuck Christensen gathered us together. Bob Meneely had been the original tour leader but was feeling a bit under the weather so Bob stayed home with Pat to get well. Stay warm Bob! Also missing was John and Dorothy Walker as Dorothy required a bit of medical attention and they chose to rest up too. Hope you're feeling okay Dorothy! So Chuck, as our irregular or unoriginal tour guide (we never did decide what exactly to call him) got us headed in the right direction. We all piled into our cars and headed out. It was pretty picture as all the old cars slowly made their way south. We arrived at Cinnabar shortly after 11. We found a great spot to line up all the vintage cars, take some photos and then walked up to the Country Club. We had the entire place to ourselves and sat down to a very nice brunch with our fellow club members. Lucy Greenberg even managed to squeeze 8 of us into a table for 6 just so we could all talk together. Thanks Lucy.Lots of chit-chat, enjoying the serene atmosphere or the great view made for a great way to end the month. We all eventually departed, each going their own way back home. I understood there was another event that some members were attending later in the day and folks had to get home to get ready but that will be another story. The Kodak moment for me was on the way back home. Troed Johnson, in his trademark stove pipe hat, making the right turn down Bailey road in his vintage pick up truck. With a big wave and smile he drove in a direction not taken by the masses, doing it his way with his own style. That's the kind of stuff that makes this club so great.Mike and Nadine Camicia |
