Saturday, November 12, 2011 was a very cloudy day but it didn’t keep anyone away from our tour to Fred Zillmer’s toy collection and the Santa Clara Train Depot. Allan and Lucy Greenberg led one group to the Train Depot and Bill Bratt led another group to Fred’s. Fred met us in front of his warehouse with his son and some close friends. There were refreshments for us and big smiles on our hosts face. Fred expressed how happy he was for us to see his collection and what a collection it was. I do not think I have seen so many different toys all together in my life. Fred asked us to follow him and he preceded to tell us the story behind his collection and explained each different class of toys. The building has two floors and the wall shelves are packed both down stairs and up stairs. Fred showed his train collection which was made up of American Fliers and Lionel trains. The first group stayed for one hour and I called Allan to tell him we were heading to the Train Depot. I am sure that if we had one group we would still be there. The first group preceded to the Depot where we parked our cars and went inside. What a surprise. This museum is well worth a visit and my hope is we can do this again.
