Santa Clara Valley Model T Ford Club

Tour to Dick De Luna's Car Collection
February 2008

Although some thought that no one in their right mind would take out an antique car ( let alone a Model T) when a headline-grabbing storm was coming in, we car people know that sanity is overrated at times.

That being said, the tour on Saturday, February 23, 2008 was an interlude of enjoyment on an otherwise gloomy day.

From Rancho Shopping Center, the group of mostly modern cars (cheers to the Edwards', Meneelys, and Harrisons for braving it) led by tour leader Bob Edwards, took back roads through the rolling green hills of Los Altos Hills, Portola Valley and Woodside.

The journey's entertainment was supplied by Bob Edwards (flat tire) and yours truly, who was too busy looking at the scenery to pay attention to the directions. Maybe if I apologize in print!

Once all of us got to Dick DeLuna's Woodside home, the tour got even better.

Aside from the incredible vehicle and automobilia collection, the attention to organization and detail is astounding. The many autos and other vehicles are carefully displayed; the automobilia is artfully arranged by brand, and the garage and barn that showcase everything are works of art in their own right. Dick is a gracious host and we were warmly welcomed with coffee and Danish.

After we tore ourselves away from Woodside, most of us headed to Pete's Harbor (The Waterfront Restaurant) for lunch. The staff always seems to welcome us no matter how loud we get, which wasn't bad this time. We enjoyed our meal as we watched the weather get steadily worse. When it let up a bit, we all went our separate ways. The rest of the Model Ts will come out to play another day.
