Santa Clara Valley Model T Ford Club

Safety Inspection & Blossom Tour
March 2011

March 13, 2011. Good turnout for the first 25 mile tour of the year. 9 T's gathered at Rancho Shopping Center, and 3 more joined us at Gunn High School. We did a few inspections, weighed a few cars, kicked a lot of tires, looked at all the Gunn projects and generally had a good gabfest. Some gentlemen suggested that four ladies should stand on the scales in place of tires to get a group weight. This was immediately vetoed by the ladies! One of the Gunn students, Oliver Johnson, brought his dad and his grand-dad and his grand-dads T. We ran it through the inspection, and except for a few missing cotter pins, it was a good solid 1923 touring T, ready for touring.

Then 12 T's and 27 people hit the road in search of blossoms and country roads. There were a few more blossoms than last year (when there were none), the mustard was in full swing, and for sure we had lots of fresh greenery to admire. We meandered out through Portola Valley and into Woodside and then headed back down Alameda de las Pulgas back to the starting point at Gunn HS.

It was a bring a sandwich to share tour, the club furnished the drinks and the ice cream fairy bestowed ice cream on the group. Dorothy W. made brownies and Jim L. brought some St. Patrick's Day cupcakes. And Mike Camicia treated us to a good video on the importance of math (with an automotive slant), which featured the Gunn Speedster and some of the Gunn Autocross cars. And so, lunched, ice creamed, entertained and having earned a bunch of driving patches, folks headed for home. Now here's the question, folks that come up from the South Bay and down from the Peninsula drive way more than 25 miles just to get to the start of the tour. Maybe we should give them a bigger patch. Whattayathink? (Just kidding)

The folks that earned driving patches are Gary Aslanian (his first), Bob Beaman, Bill Bratt, Bob Edwards, Mark Edwards, Allan Greenberg, Troed Johnson, Bob McConnell, Bob Meneely, and John Walker. All gentlemen, alright you ladies, Pat says get busy and show up in full force for the next 25 mile tour.

My favorite part of the tour? The tree tunnels of Woodside.

Bob Meneely
