April 23, 2011: This was the day of our Annual General Meeting Brunch which we do every year because of the conflict with the Bakersfield Swap Meet. This year, we threw in a little variety, so after the General Meeting, we followed the Walkers to Shore Line Park in Mountain View to fly kites. We had 6 T's, 1 A, 1 Packard and a few modern cars. When we arrived at the park, there were a few kites in the air already. Someone had a "Sure Fly" kite tethered that was extremely puffy and another large green kite was struggling to stay aloft next to it. Well, the wind always blows at the park, right? No, not on this day. We needed running shoes and a lot of patience to get some color in the sky. There was a lot of standing and looking into the sky, many helping hands holding kites way up like an offering to the wind and of course running around. Now wouldn't you think an airplane kite would fly, especially a Fokker tri-plane? Well, apparently the run way wasn't long enough for lift off. The home made kite from a plastic trash bag did very well. The calm skies didn't seem to dampen the spirits of the T members especially the ones in the peanut galley giving advice and laughing. We concluded with John Walker handing out awards and we began to pack up. At this time the wind began to pick up! Check out the picture of the Harrisons who stayed after to meet friends. Thanks John for a good time. Pat Meneely |
