This weekend club members had a number of great events
to choose from. The Olson's Cherry Orchard tour brought out six people in 3 T's and
2 A's and Mike and Nadine Camicia came by to see us
off. After a short trip Deborah Olson met us in
Sunnyvale
at the family fruit stand. She told us about the history of her family's farm
as we walked to the orchard nearby that her father still tends. Once at the
orchard, Deborah shared with us some of the points of growing cherries while
we sampled five varieties. Everyone had their favorite. We heard how cherries
are processed for marketing and that some varieties are no longer marketed
because they are bruised easily. She said they have problems with birds and
other critters just like we do with fruit trees in our yard at home. After
all our questions were answered we headed back to the fruit stand for some
shopping. Yum!
