June 13, 2010: We did it one more time. The weather
could not have been finer, blue skies, moderate temperatures
as we lined up in the staging area on Laurelwood, got our route
maps and instructions and got ready to go. This year we had 36
speedsters entered for the Endurance Run and 52 cars on the Lowland
Tour. The morning speedster route took us out through Silver
creek Valley and up and over Metcalf Road, always a test of bands
and brakes. After that it was a breeze, a pleasant drive looping
down past Hollister on the East side to Tres Pinos and coming
back into town from the South. Lunch stop was at Tiffany Ford
in Hollister and we had PIZZA!!! That was something new for the
speedster drivers but I think everybody loved it. After the
lunchtime festivities, we took a tour through the Gilroy Hot
Springs Valley and then across the Santa Clara Valley to Almaden
Road. This set us up for the final test of the day on Hicks
Road. Some folks barely had enough low band to get up Hicks
Road and some folks barely had enough brake band to get down
Hicks Road, but we didnt lose any one there. If you were
an early bird to the finish line, you got there before the banner
was raised. If you were a late arrival to the finish line you
might have got there as the banner was coming down. All in all,
another great run, lots of fun.
