Stars, stripes, music and fun were the order of the day on
July 4th. It was a glorious day for a ride in an open car and
we all enjoyed the trip out to the Uvas area. For those who
have not gone on this tour, you dont know what you are
missing.
We left from the rear of the Shell Station on Almaden Expy and
Blossom Hill Road at 9 a.m. and took a lovely morning ride out
through Almaden Valley and up to the Uvas Canyon Area. As you
are driving (or riding) along this beautiful country road with
its narrow bridges and lovely pastures, you begin to see some
of the largest homes that have been dotting the hillsides.
When you turn up Croy Road on your way into the park there are
horses grazing and wild turkeys crossing the road. Not
unique to the area are some very old barns and out buildings
left from former ranches. Once you make that final little hill
into Sveadal, you are greeted with charming little summer cottages
owned by many Swedish families. The parking for the cars is
great and most of it is in the shade of big oak trees. Down the
hill we go for a grand breakfast of scrambled eggs, ham, pancakes
and watermelon. Coffee, tea and cold drinks are also on the menu.
The price this year was $8.00 and worth every penny. Believe
it or not this is a growing event. We had 63 in attendance with
an
assortment of cars. There were 3 Lincolns, 1 Marmon, 3 Model
As, 1 Dodge and 14 Model Ts.
What a great event and they already said they want us back
next year. One great thing about this event is that if you do
not have other plans for the day, you can bring your swimsuit,
soft ball, basket ball and a picnic lunch (or dinner) and spend
the whole day. Happy touring and look for you next July 4.
